Two weeks ago, a resident of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, claimed to have won half of the prize money of USD 198-million Mega Millions jackpot.
It is believed that the man, Giuseppe Garofalo, is looking forward to receive the winning amount as cash. This means that he will be receiving whatever is left after the tax (25% federal and 3% state) from his winnings of USD 73,279,052.
Before May 17 draw, Garofalo purchased his USD 10 ticket from Lukoil. The store, from where Garofalo purchased the ticket, is going to receive a portion of the USD 30,000 bonus, which is there for selling the winning ticket. He will be sharing the massive prize money with another winner, who is from Virginia.
Other than the fact that he is from New Jersey, officials from Mega Millions Lottery didn’t reveal any information about Garofalo. No one knows what he does and what his plans are after he will receive his money. They wish to keep his identity a secret for his safety.
Carole Hedinger, executive director of the Lottery, said, “Till he gets the prize money in his hands, Garofelo should sign his ticket and put it somewhere safe. I believe that he has done everything in the right possible manner, which is expected from a winner of such a jackpot amount. We want our winners to follow the same path, as what he has done before coming forward in public.”
